  • Sep 28, 2026Apache ActiveMQ Artemis before 2.34.0 contains an unsafe reflection vulnerability in FederationStreamConnectMessage.getFederationPolicy().CVE-2026-101292 · Other software · Red Hat · reported by Red HatHigh 8.2

Apache ActiveMQ Artemis before 2.34.0 contains an unsafe reflection vulnerability in FederationStreamConnectMessage.getFederationPolicy(). The method calls Class.forName(clazz).getConstructor().newInstance() where clazz is read directly from the CORE protocol wire buffer without type validation. An authenticated federation peer can send a FEDERATION_DOWNSTREAM_CONNECT packet with a crafted class name, causing the broker to load and instantiate arbitrary classes visible to the Artemis module classloader. Static initializers (<clinit>) and no-argument constructors (<init>()) execute as side effects before the type cast, enabling denial of service via system-property poisoning, out-of-memory conditions via classloading, or broker state manipulation.

Improper Authorization vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ Broker, Apache ActiveMQ All, Apache ActiveMQ. An authenticated low-privilege user can bypass a per-destination write ACL by sending to an ActiveMQ temporary composite destination whose physical name is a comma-separated composite of real queues. This allows publishing messages to any of the destinations in the list without proper write ACL permissions because the authorization check is bypassed due to the composite destination being marked as temporary. This issue affects Apache ActiveMQ Broker: before 5.19.9, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.8; Apache ActiveMQ All: before 5.19.9, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.8; Apache ActiveMQ: before 5.19.9, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.8. Improper Input Validation vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ AMQP, Apache ActiveMQ, Apache ActiveMQ All. A remote unauthenticated peer that can reach an exposed AMQP NIO connector can trigger denial-of-service behavior by sending a frame size value. This cause the NIO threads to die and if done rapidly enough can lead to exhaustion of the NIO thread pool denying service to other connections. This issue affects Apache ActiveMQ AMQP: before 5.19.9, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.8; Apache ActiveMQ: before 5.19.9, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.8; Apache ActiveMQ All: before 5.19.9, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.8. • Jun 30, 2026Missing Authorization vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ Broker, Apache ActiveMQ All, Apache ActiveMQ.CVE-2026-54475 · Websites & servers · Apache Software Foundation · reported by security@apache.orgHigh 7.5

Missing Authorization vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ Broker, Apache ActiveMQ All, Apache ActiveMQ. Apache ActiveMQ Classic temporary destinations are expected to be isolated to the connection that created them. The isolation can be broken as this is only checked in the client, allowing a different connection to consume from another connection's temporary destination. This issue affects Apache ActiveMQ Broker: before 5.19.8, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.7; Apache ActiveMQ All: before 5.19.8, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.7; Apache ActiveMQ: before 5.19.8, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.7. Improper Input Validation vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ, Apache ActiveMQ All, Apache ActiveMQ Stomp. A remote unauthenticated peer that can reach an exposed STOMP connector can trigger denial-of-service behavior by sending a negative content-length. For the NIO STOMP transport, an attacker can keep streaming body bytes and grow the per-connection command buffer beyond configured limits to cause OOM. For the blocking STOMP protocol, an error will instead force abnormal transport exception handling for the affected connection and closure. Improper Input Validation, Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection') vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ Broker, Apache ActiveMQ All, Apache ActiveMQ. Non-parenthesized discovery wrappers such as `masterslave:vm://...,...` and `static:vm://...` incorrectly pass validation allowing bypass of fix in CVE-2026-34197.  Original description from CVE-2026-34197. Apache ActiveMQ exposes the Jolokia JMX-HTTP bridge at /api/jolokia/ on the web console. The default Jolokia access policy permits exec operations on all ActiveMQ MBeans (org.apache.activemq:*), including BrokerService.addNetworkConnector(String) and BrokerService.addConnector(String). An authenticated attacker can invoke these operations with a crafted discovery UR that triggers the VM transport's brokerConfig parameter to load a remote Spring XML application context using ResourceXmlApplicationContext. Because Spring's ResourceXmlApplicationContext instantiates all singleton beans before the BrokerService validates the configuration, arbitrary code execution occurs on the broker's JVM through bean factory methods such as Runtime.exec(). Improper Input Validation, Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection') vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ, Apache ActiveMQ Broker, Apache ActiveMQ All. An authenticated attacker can use the admin web console page to construct a malicious broker name that bypasses name validation to include an xbean binding that can be later used by a VM transport to load a remote Spring XML application. Denial of Service via Out of Memory vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ Client, Apache ActiveMQ Broker, Apache ActiveMQ. ActiveMQ NIO SSL transports do not correctly handle TLSv1.3 handshake KeyUpdates triggered by clients. This makes it possible for a client to rapidly trigger updates which causes the broker to exhaust all its memory in the SSL engine leading to DoS. Note: TLS versions before TLSv1.3 (such as TLSv1.2) are broken but are not vulnerable to OOM. Previous TLS versions require a full handshake renegotiation which causes a connection to hang but not OOM. This is fixed as well. Improper validation and restriction of a classpath path name vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ Client, Apache ActiveMQ Broker, Apache ActiveMQ All, Apache ActiveMQ Web, Apache ActiveMQ. In two instances (when creating a Stomp consumer and also browsing messages in the Web console) an authenticated user provided "key" value could be constructed to traverse the classpath due to path concatenation. As a result, the application is exposed to a classpath path resource loading vulnerability that could potentially be chained together with another attack to lead to exploit. This issue affects Apache ActiveMQ Client: before 5.19.3, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.2; Apache ActiveMQ Broker: before 5.19.3, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.2; Apache ActiveMQ All: before 5.19.3, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.2; Apache ActiveMQ Web: before 5.19.3, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.2; Apache ActiveMQ: before 5.19.3, from 6.0.0 before 6.2.2. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 5.19.4 or 6.2.3, which fixes the issue. Note: 5.19.3 and 6.2.2 also fix this issue, but that is limited to non-Windows environments due to a path separator resolution bug fixed in 5.19.4 and 6.2.3.

Incorrect Authorization (CWE-863) vulnerability in Apache Artemis, Apache ActiveMQ Artemis exists when an application using the OpenWire protocol attempts to create a non-durable JMS topic subscription on an address that doesn't exist with an authenticated user which has the "createDurableQueue" permission but does not have the "createAddress" permission and address auto-creation is disabled. In this circumstance, a temporary address will be created whereas the attempt to create the non-durable subscription should instead fail since the user is not authorized to create the corresponding address. Missing Authentication for Critical Function (CWE-306) vulnerability in Apache Artemis, Apache ActiveMQ Artemis. An unauthenticated remote attacker can use the Core protocol to force a target broker to establish an outbound Core federation connection to an attacker-controlled rogue broker. This could potentially result in message injection into any queue and/or message exfiltration from any queue via the rogue broker. This impacts environments that allow both: - incoming Core protocol connections from untrusted sources to the broker - outgoing Core protocol connections from the broker to untrusted targets This issue affects: - Apache Artemis from 2.50.0 through 2.51.0 - Apache ActiveMQ Artemis from 2.11.0 through 2.44.0. Users are recommended to upgrade to Apache Artemis version 2.52.0, which fixes the issue. The issue can be mitigated by one of the following: - Remove Core protocol support from any acceptor receiving connections from untrusted sources. Incoming Core protocol connections are supported by default via the "artemis" acceptor listening on port 61616. See the "protocols" URL parameter configured for the acceptor. An acceptor URL without this parameter supports a

WARNING: Users of 6.x should upgrade to 6.2.4 or later as the fix was missed in previous 6.x releases. See the  following for more details: https://activemq.apache.org/security-advisories.data/CVE-2026-40046-announcement.txt https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-40046 Original Report: Apache ActiveMQ does not properly validate the remaining length field which may lead to an overflow during the decoding of malformed packets. When this integer overflow occurs, ActiveMQ may incorrectly compute the total Remaining Length and subsequently misinterpret the payload as multiple MQTT control packets which makes the broker susceptible to unexpected behavior when interacting with non-compliant clients. This behavior violates the MQTT v3.1.1 specification, which restricts Remaining Length to a maximum of 4 bytes. The scenario occurs on established connections after the authentication process. Brokers that are not enabling mqtt transport connectors are not impacted. This issue affects Apache ActiveMQ: before 5.19.2, 6.0.0 to 6.1.8, and 6.2.0 Users are recommended to upgrade to version 5.19.2, 6.1.9, or 6.2.1, which fixes the issue.

A container privilege escalation flaw was found in certain AMQ Broker images. This issue stems from the /etc/passwd file being created with group-writable permissions during build time. In certain conditions, an attacker who can execute commands within an affected container, even as a non-root user, can leverage their membership in the root group to modify the /etc/passwd file. This could allow the attacker to add a new user with any arbitrary UID, including UID 0, leading to full root privileges within the container.

  • Oct 16, 2025A Deserialization of Untrusted Data vulnerability exists in the Apache ActiveMQ NMS AMQP Client.CVE-2025-54539 · Websites & servers · Apache Software Foundation · reported by security@apache.orgCritical 9.8

A Deserialization of Untrusted Data vulnerability exists in the Apache ActiveMQ NMS AMQP Client. This issue affects all versions of Apache ActiveMQ NMS AMQP up to and including 2.3.0, when establishing connections to untrusted AMQP servers. Malicious servers could exploit unbounded deserialization logic present in the client to craft responses that may lead to arbitrary code execution on the client side. Although version 2.1.0 introduced a mechanism to restrict deserialization via allow/deny lists, the protection was found to be bypassable under certain conditions. In line with Microsoft’s deprecation of binary serialization in .NET 9, the project is evaluating the removal of .NET binary serialization support from the NMS API entirely in future releases. Mitigation and Recommendations: Users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to version 2.4.0 or later, which resolves the issue. Additionally, projects depending on NMS-AMQP should migrate away from .NET binary serialization as part of a long-term hardening strategy.

Memory Allocation with Excessive Size Value vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ. During unmarshalling of OpenWire commands the size value of buffers was not properly validated which could lead to excessive memory allocation and be exploited to cause a denial of service (DoS) by depleting process memory, thereby affecting applications and services that rely on the availability of the ActiveMQ broker when not using mutual TLS connections. • Apr 18, 2025Deserialization of Untrusted Data vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ NMS OpenWire Client.CVE-2025-29953 · Websites & servers · Apache Software Foundation · reported by security@apache.orgCritical 9.8

Deserialization of Untrusted Data vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ NMS OpenWire Client. This issue affects Apache ActiveMQ NMS OpenWire Client before 2.1.1 when performing connections to untrusted servers. Such servers could abuse the unbounded deserialization in the client to provide malicious responses that may eventually cause arbitrary code execution on the client. Version 2.1.0 introduced a allow/denylist feature to restrict deserialization, but this feature could be bypassed. The .NET team has deprecated the built-in .NET binary serialization feature starting with .NET 9 and suggests migrating away from binary serialization. The project is considering to follow suit and drop this part of the NMS API altogether. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 2.1.1, which fixes the issue. We also recommend to migrate away from relying on .NET binary serialization as a hardening method for the future.
