    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Squashfs: check block offset is not negative If a negative offset is read off disk (for example the offset into the decompressed fragment block), this will cause squashfs_copy_data() to perform an out of bounds access. Fix by checking if offset is negative, and returning 0. This matches existing behaviour where an offset beyond the block returns 0 bytes copied. To trigger this out of bounds access requires a crafted Squashfs filesystem and CAP_SYS_ADMIN to mount it. Unprivileged users will not be able to mount such a filesystem, but once mounted, an unprivileged user can trigger the out of bounds access by reading the crafted file with the negative offset.

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: erofs: fix interlaced ztailpacking pclusters On-disk sizes of interlaced pclusters should be block-aligned, and ztailpacking interlaced pclusters should be invalid at all. Currently, mkfs.erofs won't generate any interlaced pcluster with ztailpacking enabled, so this doesn't affect any existing valid filesystems. However, crafted images can contain invalid interlaced ztailpacking pclusters, resulting in an out-of-bounds read from a kmap'd page and copying irrelevant kernel memory into userspace-visible page cache.

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm-pcache: validate geometry fields from on-disk cache_info cache_segs_init() iterates cache_info->n_segs times indexing cache->segments[], which is sized to the cache device geometry, and get_seg_id() takes each segment id from the on-media cache_info and the per-segment next_seg link. Both come from cache device metadata that is only CRC-protected with a fixed public seed, so whoever supplies the cache device on a table load (CAP_SYS_ADMIN) controls them: an oversized n_segs or an out-of-range id drives an out-of-bounds access of cache->segments[] and a wild CACHE_DEV_SEGMENT() pointer into the device mapping -- an out-of-bounds read and write from on-disk data. Reject an n_segs that exceeds the device segment count and a segment id that is out of range before either is used. Valid metadata is unaffected.

  • Sep 1, 2026A vulnerability in Hugging Face Transformers (versions 4.57.0 to 5.16.1) allows remote Python files to be written to local disk without user consent when using CVE-2026-80047 · Other software · Hugging Face · reported by cret@cert.orgHigh 7.8

    A vulnerability in Hugging Face Transformers (versions 4.57.0 to 5.16.1) allows remote Python files to be written to local disk without user consent when using GenerativePreTrainedModel.load_custom_generate(). The function fetches and caches a remote module file before performing the required trust_remote_code consent check, inverting the security model enforced by other code-loading paths (such as AutoConfig, AutoModel, and AutoTokenizer). As a result, attacker‑controlled Python code from custom_generate/generate.py is copied into the user’s ~/.cache/huggingface/modules directory even if the user declines the trust prompt. Although execution is correctly gated, the file write is not reversible and can persist across sessions. This can lead to persistent, unauthorized files on disk and stale cache collisions where cached attacker code may later be executed during trusted model loads. The issue stems from an unconditional file write in dynamic_module_utils.py prior to any trust verification.

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: stop the timeout timer when releasing a never added disk disk_release() undoes blk_mq_init_allocated_queue() for a disk whose probe failed before add_disk(), but it only calls blk_mq_exit_queue(). Nothing there stops q->timeout, and that timer rolls forward: it stays pending until it next expires, not until the last request completes. So if the driver issued any I/O before adding the disk, the request_queue is freed while still linked into a timer wheel bucket. Commit 6f8191fdf41d ("block: simplify disk shutdown") dropped the blk_cleanup_queue() call that used to stop it. __del_gendisk() and blk_mq_destroy_queue() still do; only the probe failure path lost it. nvme gets there because nvme_update_ns_info() submits Report Zones or FDP io-mgmt-recv on ns->queue before the disk is added, so a later failure - a concurrent reset setting NVME_CTRL_FROZEN, or device_add_disk() failing - lands in put_disk() with the timer armed: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in detach_if_pending+0x30c/0x340 Write of size 8 at addr ffff888004d71310 by task kworker/u8:2/37 __timer_delete_sync+0x156/0x240 kernel/time/time

  • Aug 25, 2026The Zephyr ext2 filesystem driver validates the on-disk block bitmap in ext2_init_fs() (subsys/fs/ext2/ext2_impl.c) by passing fs_blocks = s_blocks_count - s_fiCVE-2026-13478 · Other software · zephyrproject · reported by vulnerabilities@zephyrproject.orgMedium 5.5

    The Zephyr ext2 filesystem driver validates the on-disk block bitmap in ext2_init_fs() (subsys/fs/ext2/ext2_impl.c) by passing fs_blocks = s_blocks_count - s_first_data_block to ext2_bitmap_count_set(). That helper (subsys/fs/ext2/ext2_bitmap.c) treats its argument as a number of bits and reads one bitmap byte per eight bits, but the bitmap buffer (BGROUP_BLOCK_BITMAP) is a single fetched block of only fs->block_size bytes (capacity fs->block_size * 8 bits). s_blocks_count and s_first_data_block are taken verbatim from the superblock and were never bounded against this single-group capacity; ext2_verify_disk_superblock() checks the magic, revision, and block-size shift but not the block count. A crafted ext2 image with an oversized s_blocks_count (up to ~4 billion, against a maximum 4096-byte block / 32768-bit bitmap) makes ext2_bitmap_count_set() scan roughly 512 MB of memory past the bitmap block — a large out-of-bounds read of the static block slab and adjacent memory. The defect is reached during mount: ext2_init_fs() is invoked from ext2_mount() (subsys/fs/ext2/ext2_ops.c), the registered .mount operation. • Aug 25, 2026The Zephyr ext2 filesystem driver fails to validate the s_log_block_size field of the on-disk superblock when mounting a filesystem.CVE-2026-13215 · Other software · zephyrproject · reported by vulnerabilities@zephyrproject.orgMedium 6.8

    The Zephyr ext2 filesystem driver fails to validate the s_log_block_size field of the on-disk superblock when mounting a filesystem. ext2_verify_disk_superblock() in subsys/fs/ext2/ext2_impl.c checks the magic number, revision, inode size and group counts, but never bounds s_log_block_size. On a successful verify, subsys/fs/ext2/ext2_ops.c computes fs->block_size = 1024 << superblock.s_log_block_size from this attacker-controlled uint32_t, so a crafted value either overflows the shift (undefined behaviour) or yields a block size far larger than CONFIG_EXT2_MAX_BLOCK_SIZE. That block size is then passed to k_mem_slab_init() by ext2_init_blocks_slab() to carve CONFIG_EXT2_MAX_BLOCK_COUNT blocks out of the fixed static buffer __ext2_block_memory_buffer, whose size is CONFIG_EXT2_MAX_BLOCK_COUNT * CONFIG_EXT2_MAX_BLOCK_SIZE. k_mem_slab_init() does not verify that the requested blocks fit the buffer, and the ext2 wrapper discards its return value, so the slab is laid out past the end of the static buffer. The mount immediately reads block-group, bitmap and inode blocks of fs->block_size bytes each into these slab blocks, producing an out-of-bounds write into adjacent static memory on t

  • Aug 21, 2026VeraCrypt provides disk encryption with strong security based on TrueCrypt.CVE-2026-54073 · Other software · veracrypt · reported by GitHubMedium 4.6

    VeraCrypt provides disk encryption with strong security based on TrueCrypt. From 1.26.6 until 1.26.29, file-hosted hidden volume creation forces quick format and the FormatNoFs function in src/Common/Format.c and FormatFat function in src/Common/Fat.c use WriteFile to place raw zeroed sectors at predictable 128 MiB intervals. These writes bypass the normal EncryptDataUnits formatting path, leaving deterministic plaintext markers in an area expected to resemble random ciphertext. The markers can weaken plausible deniability during forensic inspection, although they do not disclose hidden-volume content or reduce the strength of VeraCrypt encryption. This issue is fixed in version 1.26.29.

  • Aug 21, 2026VeraCrypt provides disk encryption with strong security based on TrueCrypt.CVE-2026-53762 · Other software · veracrypt · reported by GitHubMedium 6.2

    VeraCrypt provides disk encryption with strong security based on TrueCrypt. Prior to 1.26.29, non-default builds created with WOLFCRYPT=1 and WOLFCRYPT_BACKEND route SHA-256 and SHA-512 volume-header key derivation through derive_key_sha256 and derive_key_sha512 in src/Crypto/wolfCrypt.c, where the configured iterations value is discarded and wc_HKDF is used instead of PBKDF2-HMAC. Changing the PIM or iteration count therefore does not increase derivation cost, allowing an attacker with an affected container, disk image, or volume header to perform substantially cheaper offline password guesses. Official precompiled VeraCrypt binaries and normal distribution packages use the standard PBKDF2 backend and are not affected. Volumes created by an affected WOLFCRYPT=1 build require backup and recreation because corrected builds derive different keys. This issue is fixed in version 1.26.29.

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: libsas: Fix HA resume deadlock and hisi_sas disk-wake race Commit fbefe22811c3 ("scsi: libsas: Don't always drain event workqueue for HA resume") introduced sas_resume_ha_no_sync() to avoid a deadlock: the PHYE_RESUME_TIMEOUT handler, running on the HA event workqueue, calls sas_deform_port() -> sas_destruct_devices(), which removes SCSI devices and waits for the host to become runtime-active. But the host cannot resume until sas_resume_ha() -> sas_drain_work() returns, and the drain is blocked on that very handler. However skipping the drain reintroduces a race: hisi_sas returns from resume before all PHY UP work and libsas discovery work finish. The controller may then autosuspend while disks are still waking up. The disks issue IO to a suspended controller, the IO fails, and the disks get disabled. Fix the deadlock at its source by moving the PHYE_RESUME_TIMEOUT notification to after sas_drain_work(). By then the host resume is about to complete, so device removal through device_link no longer blocks on the resume and the cycle is broken. With the deadlock gone, restore sas_resume_ha() (the draining v

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/ntfs3: resize log->one_page_buf when adopting on-disk page size log_replay() allocates log->one_page_buf using the page size that was chosen from the host PAGE_SIZE: log->one_page_buf = kmalloc(log->page_size, GFP_NOFS); Later, when a restart area is found, the log page size recorded on disk is adopted: t32 = le32_to_cpu(log->rst_info.r_page->sys_page_size); if (log->page_size != t32) { log->l_size = log->orig_file_size; log->page_size = norm_file_page(t32, &log->l_size, t32 == DefaultLogPageSize); } If the on-disk page size is larger than the size used for the initial allocation, log->page_size grows but one_page_buf is left at its original, smaller size. A subsequent unaligned read_log_page() then reads log->page_size bytes into the undersized scratch buffer: page_buf = page_off ? log->one_page_buf : *buffer; err = ntfs_read_run_nb_ra(ni->mi.sbi, &ni->file.run, page_vbo, page_buf, log->page_size, NULL, &log->read_ahead); overflowing the allocation. This is reachable when mounting a dirty NTFS volume whose log was formatted with a page size larger than the buffer initially allocate

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ntfs3: cap RESTART_TABLE free-chain walker at rt->used A crafted NTFS3 disk image triggers an in-kernel infinite loop at mount time, hanging the mounting thread and firing the soft-lockup watchdog within ~22s on multi-CPU hosts (panic with kernel.softlockup_panic=1). The bug is reachable from desktop USB auto-mount on distributions where udisks2 routes the NTFS signature to the in-tree ntfs3 driver (Arch family and an increasing fraction of Fedora / openSUSE / RHEL deployments); CAP_SYS_ADMIN-class manual mount elsewhere. check_rstbl()'s second walker iterates the free-entry singly-linked list headed by rt->first_free with no upper bound on iteration count: for (off = ff; off;) { if (off == RESTART_ENTRY_ALLOCATED) return false; off = le32_to_cpu(*(__le32 *)Add2Ptr(rt, off)); if (off > ts - sizeof(__le32)) return false; } The existing guards cover three exits: end-of-list (off == 0), the in-use marker (off == RESTART_ENTRY_ALLOCATED), and out-of-bounds (off > ts - sizeof(__le32)). None of the three prevents an in-bounds cycle. A crafted on-disk RESTART_TABLE whose f

    In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: fix UBSAN array-index-out-of-bounds in ocfs2_sum_rightmost_rec [BUG] On-disk corruption setting l_next_free_rec to 0 in an inode's embedded extent list triggers a UBSAN panic on the next write to that file. [CAUSE] ocfs2_sum_rightmost_rec() computes i = le16_to_cpu(el->l_next_free_rec) - 1 and accesses el->l_recs[i] without validating i. When l_next_free_rec is 0, i becomes -1; when l_next_free_rec exceeds l_count, i falls past the end of the array. Either case violates the __counted_by_le(l_count) annotation on l_recs[] and triggers UBSAN. [FIX] Validate the inode's embedded extent list when the inode is read, in ocfs2_validate_inode_block(): l_count must be non-zero and no larger than the inode block can hold, and l_next_free_rec must not exceed l_count. A corrupt list is rejected at read time, before the b-tree code can index l_recs[] out of bounds.

    An authorization bypass vulnerability in LXD allows an authenticated user to bypass project-level disk and volume limits. Two related code paths fail to verify resource limits during volume operations: the storagePoolVolumeTypePostMove function omits the limits.AllowVolumeCreation check before moving a volume across projects, and volume snapshot restore operations skip the AllowVolumeUpdate check when the configuration is nil (Config == nil). An attacker can exploit these flaws to allocate storage resources that exceed the administrative limits configured for a project.
